Dave Adair ("Captain Dave") is originally from the upstate of South Carolina. He came to Columbia to attend the University of South Carolina. He was invited to join the college radio station by a friend freshman year because he had a huge record collection and a parking sticker.
A couple of years on the college station led to his first "real" radio job at Columbia's
first rock station. Soon he was hired as the 10am-3pm person on a station in Camden. The station was on the second floor downtown and Dave had to run up and down the two flights of stairs to check the temperature on the clock outside the bank up the street.
He next landed a job as the morning and afternoon traffic reporter on Columbia's country station. He also was the "prize man" during this time, giving away hundreds of tickets to shows, t-shirts and refrigerator magnets.
Next he spent time as program director of a news and talk station and became the commercial voice of Columbia’s alternative music station. From there it was back to being a traffic reporter as part of the morning teams on Columbia’s top 40 hit station, one of Columbia’s urban station and also again on the country station.
Dave came to B106.7 in April of 2007 doing the Friday night / Saturday morning midnight to 6am slot. He will often mention a short “fact” about a song or artist (like how Nickleback got their name by the bass player working at Starbucks and giving change to customers saying ‘Here’s your nickel back’), and of course loves hearing from you and why you’re up in the middle of the night.
