Hey, remember when Bugs Bunny would zip around the solar system in his newfangled space ship and talk to Martians…because it was 1985? Yeah, that was the year I graduated high school from Richland Northeast. It took me six years after that to even get my first car. Because when you’re a Carolina college student living off your student loan, after books and tuition costs, plus splitting rent with three other people, you still have just enough for bus fare and ramen noodles. I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything. I’m proud of my Gamecock days.
So what career does one choose after studying at the esteemed College of Journalism? Why, you become a DJ of course! Or at least, that’s what I wanted to do. There’s just something about music that can have a profound effect on the moment, or serve as a treasured bookmark for a memory that you keep hidden in your heart. And if you’re lucky, you share that song with someone special. How can I resist not being a facilitator for something so wonderful? Plus, I don’t have to lift anything heavy and now have access to all the Hall & Oates music a girl could want.
I came to B-106 back in February of 1991, met my now husband, and together we have two beautiful children: Eddie who was born in May of 1992 and Aja who followed shortly after in May of 1995. Yes, those children share a birthday month, with celebrations exactly one week apart. It’s like Christmas at our house at that time, only with much more humidity.
What do I do in my spare time? Well, I love to read, namely Christian studies, have been working on my Spanish-speaking skills with a wonderful teacher named Yadira (let me know if you want lessons, I’ll have her call you), and trying to hang out with my kids as much as I can before they grow up too fast. It happens anyway though, doesn’t it.
I’ve worked at many other radio stations through the years, but I have never experienced the wonderful chemistry of personalities and listeners as I have here at B-106, and that is why I have made this radio station my home for so many years. I hope to be here as long as you’ll have me as your midday radio friend. Thank you so much for listening!
